Martin takes his inspiration from every day and tries to capture the emotion and expression that is involved in the creation of his artwork. Martin uses a variety of materials in his work that include, ink and washes, acrylic paint, wood, oil paint. However, his preferred material to use is Sanguine pencils, which he uses for sketching.
Martin had his life turned upside down five years ago due to a stroke. He lost his speech and was left paralysed on the right side of his body. He could not see any future or hope at the time, due to being unable to work, speak or move. On returning home from the hospital, Martin started drawing with his left hand and later joined an art group based in Mallow. In the beginning, drawing provided him with a sense of relief, however, now it’s his passion. Drawing became a new way of life and is helping him overcome the difficulties of living with a disability connected with his brain Injury and epileptic seizures.
